    Who is affected by adoption?

There are many people throughout the world affected by adoption. Men, women and children. Some may say that the men and women who bring a child into the world only to relinquish those babies to adoption are the worst people in the world. However over the years the International community has come to realise that a lot of those babies were taken from the mothers when they born or not long after.

It is a sad fact that many of the girls involved were told to 'forget it and get on with your life' but that is often an impossibility because those girls have had to live with the trauma for many many years and some still do 30, 50, 60 and more years on.

Adoption Origins Tasmania was started in 1996 and helped several people through the years. They were there for mothers, fathers and adoptees. Some have since died while others still live with the memories of their children taken from them all those years ago.

It is hoped that the Australian government and governments all around the world will do the right thing and not put young women through the trauma that many had to suffer in the early 1920's, 1930's, 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s...

This site will continue to be revamped over the coming years to include up to date stories and articles. And it will try and give as much information as it can to those affected by adoption. At this point in time the Australian Government has allocated funding to Centacare - a section of the Catholic Church so that they can provide an independent councilling service to young women who find themselves pregant.

It is hoped that they will also oversee this group to ensure that that service is independent. We certainly do not want to have the traumas that many of us have seen over the years when babies have been taken from women, women forced into reliquishing their babes instead of having the support they need. This group is supposed to offer support to women who have decided to abort their babes. I hope the support is there and these women are not forced into something they will later regret.

I hope the Australian Government has learnt from past practices. We'll see.
